our story

Samudra Skin & Sea is a socially-conscious skincare brand owned by women and based in San Francisco, California.

Samudra was founded by our #Girlboss Shilpi, after she discovered the soothing effect of seaweed on her dry skin and eczema. Armed with an unique expertise in ocean conservation and social responsibility, she created a skincare line that blends ecological integrity and personal wellness using fresh and honest ingredients. Guided by this simple ethos, we built a mission-driven company committed to pure skincare that is good for people and planet.

We’re excited to bring the incredible benefits of seaweed to your skincare routine while inspiring action to protect our ocean.

Our products are handmade in small batches to maximize freshness and effectiveness.

We chose our core ingredient, seaweed, based on its incredible ability to replenish and renew skin. We use local edible-grade, wild harvested kelp to hydrate, nourish and detoxify. In addition to seaweed, our formulas use a variety of plant-based ingredients to actively repair damage, boost collagen production, and brighten complexion leaving your skin naturally luminous and smooth.

All our products are composed of organic and natural ingredients without irritants like fragrances, dyes, synthetics, GMO’s, microbeads, glutens and parabens.

The ocean covers more than 70% of the planet but only 4% is protected.

Every year, plastic waste kills millions of seabirds, marine mammals, fish and crustaceans due to the overconsumption of single-use plastics and lack of proper waste management. At Samudra Skin & Sea, we’ve built protection for the ocean into our business model. Our ingredients are ecologically and ethically sourced, we employ naked packaging to store and ship our products, and we actively support ocean awareness campaigns that benefit people and marine life.

Samudra is founded on the idea that if everyone makes small changes in their everyday lives, we can have a large cumulative impact on the health of our ocean.
